I do believe that it is very important to make the site look appealing, but it is only one piece of the puzzle. Yes, “don’t judge the book by its cover” is still valid, but most people still do exactly the opposite. They do judge the book by its cover, in this case they judge the website, and in turn they judge your business and you.
When you first land on someone’s website, you immediately form an opinion about them based on how their website looks. It is something that we all do, we can’t help it. You can’t really blame them, at this point that is all they know about you.
If the site looks well put together, if the colors and typography look nice, if the imagery is just right and so forth, then the website visitor will immediately recognize that and will trust you more. Having a good web design shows that you took the time or paid for an original and pleasant design. This makes you look like you take your business more seriously than your competition.
However, on the flip side, if the text is too small or if the positioning of the elements on the page is wrong, etc. then the user will automatically not feel comfortable and will not enjoy their experience. Subconsciously they will feel that you don’t care enough about your image to justify getting professional help.
What goes into modern Web Design
In the past all the designer had to do was use something like Photoshop to create their design, then “slice it” up for the web and be done with it. These days a web designer also has to worry about how the website will render on multiple types of devices out there. It is called Responsive Web Design.
No longer is it enough for your design to look pixel perfect, like a large poster on the wall. Instead, it is fluid, ever adapting and self-reconfiguring to fit your content on various devices.
How I do Web Design
I design websites based on the type of content that you will have, and arrange the most important content to always show up first, regardless whether it is viewed on desktop, smart phone or TV. Although I haven’t won any awards yet, I know my way around web design. I can choose the right colors, typography and photography. I can make your website fully responsive and optimized for any kind of a viewing device. User experience is something that also has a big place in today’s web design.
Business website design is very different from classic design. What works for a wall poster or bottle label might not work for a website. By working closely with you, I can identify what type of web design will be the best fit for your particular industry. We can either draw inspiration from some specific design that you like and expand on that, or we can put together a totally unique website designed just for you.
