But WordPress is awesome, and it has millions plugins for every case. So why bother creating your own?
Let’s explore this
For example, there is are many contact form plugins out there. Those plugins are good at quickly putting together a contact form and collecting visitor’s info. If that is all you need, you’re covered, problem solved! There is usually plenty of documentation on the plugin author’s website. But, what if you wanted it to send emails to different recipients all at once a la mass emails style? I guess those plugins have that also, but now you have to go into the plugin documentation to find out if it has a filter or a hook that you can use. What if you also wanted to change the mail headers before sending them? For example you need to modify Reply-to field and fill in the subject dynamically based on form options? All that could be a hit and miss. Now we have a problem, we are venturing into the unknown and unfamiliar…
The above is a perfect candidate for a custom plugin and Webilect can make it happen. ( I had a client that needed this type of a solution for his “petitions” website).
The plugin that I create for you, will be a perfect fit, with only the necessary features and no bloat. It will be focused on solving your unique needs.
Problems with available plugins
The problem with public plugins is that they need to be general enough to cover multiple use cases. Their success depends on as many good reviews as possible. The plugin authors have multiple cases in mind when creating them. Even if they wanted to, they could never cover everyone’s case. Let’s say they did cover most cases, how well do you think that plugin will perform? It will most likely be bloated and have unnecessary features that will make it hard to work with. If it covers your needs, then you are fine. What if it doesn’t quite do what you want it to do?
You have 2 choices:
change your process to fit the plugin
change the plugin to fit your case
In a situation like this, I recommend going with a third choice — a custom plugin. I can put together a solution that will play nice with all of your other plugins and will be easy to maintain and modify. My code is standards compliant and well-documented for a coder even of semi-decent abilities to follow and understand. Any good WordPress developer can pick it up and modify it easily.
Hire Webilect if you get stuck with an non-standard problem or cannot find a ready solution and see what I can do for you.
